At first I thought Austin was a decent guy and we were looking forward to give our business to a local for a wood stove install. We went into his shop and he seemed reasonable and gave a us a labor install cost of $900-1200. We thought this wasn't too bad so and were glad to give him our business. We ended up buying a tiny wood stove online and asked him for a more accurate install quote. His parts quote was a bit high but still within reason. His labor quote was almost $2000. I asked him how many days it would take to install as the manufacturer of the wood stove said it would take 4-6 hours max. He was surprised by the question but said it would be one long day. When I asked why he thought $200 an hour in labor was reasonable he said he had to recoup the loss of not buying a wood stove directly through him. Clearly he didn't want our business. We ended up hiring a local Mennonite for the install for only $400.
I have been doing business with Austin for 6 years now. He is the best and the only person I trust working on my pellet stove. He has installed a new one I got from his shop,and 2 used ones I got on my own and was very reasonable price on checking out the ones I got on my own and on the install. We also get are pellets from him and they were the best deal out there. I recommend him everyone I know that is looking for a wood or pellet stove. He is the best around.
